West Ridge is getting the blues
Blue carts to be rolled out in some sections

Some residents in West Ridge are next up to receive blue carts for the city's new recycling program.
The blue cart system, launched in 2007, is a single-stream, collection service that aims to simplify the recycling process by designating all recyclable material into one container.
The city delivers the carts to single-family homes and buildings with less than 6 units. Materials that can be recycled under the program include glass jars and bottles, cardboard, magazines, telephone books, and plastics No.'s 1-5 and 7.
Recyclables are sorted by material type at processing centers before the individual commodities are sold to various industries. Cities such as San Francisco and Seattle have shown successful implementation of the blue cart system.
"The industry itself is trending toward single stream," said Christopher Sauve, program director for the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation. "It's a much easier system for residents to utilize." He says that the ultimate goal of the program is to decrease the amount of material going into landfills.
Area groups have long called for increased sanitation services in the neighborhood.
